The "Historic" Bigelow House

This home had remained in the family for over 100 years. In 1871, Susan B. Anthony dined at the home while passing through Olympia. The Bigelow House Preservation Association (BHPA) purchased the home from decendants and undertook an extensive renovation. The Bigelow house opened as a museum in 1995. Now, the association can continue to share this family's story as a window into Olympia and Washington state's history.
The Olympia Farmers Market has a history of moving from several locations in the downtown area in the past 100 years. Their current site has been home since 1996. It is a place for producers, growers and makers to gather and offer quality food and goods to their neighbors.

Lion's Park & Sylvester Park

Lion's Park is a grassy 3.72-acre oasis with tennis and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, tables, shelters, restrooms and even a water play feature for those hot summer days. In 1850, Edmund Sylvester donated land as a town square. This historic plot is known as Sylvester Park. In 1905, the grand stone State Capitol building was built across the street. With trees over 100 years old, you will feel the dedication the city has to preserve this location.
With no technology in site, Mission Creek Nature Park is 37-acres dedicated to preserve what nature intended. There is no designated vehicle parking so you will have to bike, walk or bus over to this understated park and explore the day away. The Mission Creek Trail is 1.4 miles and the Olympia Trail is 1.3 miles. You will appreciate the greenery and the beautiful water lake in the middle of the park.
The old Capitol State building served from 1905-1928. Currently the home of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, it was initially built to house the Thurston County courthouse. The building originally had a clock tower that was destroyed in a fire in 1928.
